Overview

Trattoria Carmen, nestled in the heart of Torino on V. Ormea, 15, stands as a testament to authentic Piedmontese cuisine delivered with warmth and finesse. This intimate restaurant invites both locals and travelers to experience the region’s culinary heritage, where every dish tells a story rooted in tradition and passion.

The main attractions on the menu showcase classic Piedmont specialties, starting with the famed Carne Cruda, a raw beef delicacy that sings with freshness and simplicity. Equally compelling are the Agnolotti del Plin al Sugo d'Arrosto—tiny hand-pinched pastas bathed in rich roast sauce that capture the essence of rustic Italian cooking. Other highlights include Guancia di Maiale con Patate e Cavolo Viola, tender pork cheeks paired with earthy potatoes and vibrant purple cabbage, and the comforting Gnocchi con Formaggio Tipico, which delivers a creamy, cheesy embrace.

The atmosphere at Trattoria Carmen feels more like a beloved family home than a restaurant. The space is cozy and inviting, reflecting the Piedmontese spirit of heartfelt hospitality. Reviewers often praise the attentive and accommodating staff who skillfully guide guests through the menu, translating Italian culinary terms with ease for international diners. This thoughtful service ensures no one misses out on the authentic experience, regardless of language barriers.

Wine plays an essential role here, with a selection that perfectly complements the food. The inclusion of regional varieties like the Nerello Mascalese rosé adds a fragrant and balanced touch to the meal, elevating each bite. The pace of service allows one to savor both the cuisine and the company, making it an ideal spot for intimate dinners or relaxed lunches.

Desserts such as the velvety Tiramisù, the velvety Bunet, and the delicate panna cotta with fresh blueberries provide a fitting end to the dining experience, highlighting the restaurant’s commitment to homemade quality. Pair these with a rich moka coffee to round out a meal that lingers in memory.

Trattoria Carmen is a hidden gem for those seeking genuine Piedmontese flavors in Torino. Its blend of traditional dishes, heartfelt service, and welcoming ambiance makes it an exceptional choice for food lovers wanting to step beyond typical tourist fare. Whether you arrive after a long day or plan a special outing, this trattoria promises an unpretentious but profound taste of northern Italy’s culinary roots.

Absolutely delicious. I arrived late into Torino tonight and was looking for somewhere that would take a late dinner for one. The staff were very accommodating. I had the veal and the gnocchi, plus a half litre of wine. Perfect Italian hospitality.

The only menu you will get your hands on is a wine list. The dishes will be explained to you by the waiter - if you don’t speak Italian, don’t worry, the staff speaks English. I strongly recommend taking a selection of antipasti: insalata russa, vitello tonnato, tatar, flan with cheese sauce. The portions were generous, and everything was delicious. Then we had agnolotti and gnocchi with cheese sauce (unfortunately, I don’t remember the cheese name, but it was absolutely amazing). The tiramisu was a perfect finish for this dinner. I visited this place on weekday’s evening, and a reservation is a must - I called the same evening and was lucky to get the last table.

A Hidden Gem Worth Stopping For! We stopped by on a whim for lunch, and what a great decision that was! The food was absolutely amazing – it felt like a meal lovingly prepared by a grandmother at home. We were pleasantly surprised by the wine: a Rosé made from Nerello Mascalese grapes – light, fragrant, and perfectly balanced. To finish, we had a panna cotta with blueberries and a rich moka coffee – simply the perfect ending. Thank you to the wonderful team for such a memorable experience!

Favorite meal of our 4 days in Torino. We enjoyed the flavors that have given them their stellar reputation! The pastas (agnolotti del plin) were incredible. And our desserts (panna cotta and Bunet) We were fortunate to score the last available table for lunch on 23/5. And very much appreciated the accommodating staff when rain hit the outside tables.

I had a wonderful dinner at Trattoria Carmen in Turin. The atmosphere is warm and authentic, with a true Piedmontese touch. The food was excellent. The vitello tonnato was one of the best I’ve ever had, perfectly balanced and flavorful. The pork dish was also outstanding, tender and cooked to perfection. Friendly service and great value for money. Definitely a place I would recommend to anyone visiting Turin and looking for genuine local cuisine.

Perfection. All I can say is, that it was perfect! The flavors of the starters, the pasta and the tiramisu are exactly how they should taste (even better then that). The hosts are lovely! So sweet and nice! Thank you for this wonderful experience!
